THE APPLICATION PROCESS


When can I apply?

Applications open Wednesday 4 April 2012.
Applications close Friday 1 June 2012.

You should apply by the closing date to guarantee that your application is considered. Late applications will only be accepted if there are places available.


How Do I Apply?

You can apply online through the University Admissions Centre (UAC).  Applications made through UAC will incur a processing fee of $56.


What are the admission requirements?

Applicants are eligible for admission if they meet any of the requirements below:

  • completed the NSW HSC and attained the required ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank)
  • completed other equivalent qualifications such as a recognised Certificate III, Certificate IV or Diploma
  • can demonstrate extensive professional vocational experience and attained the required entrance standard set for the course. This experience may include bridging/preparatory courses, paraprofessional and other post-secondary qualifications.
In addition, all applicants must have at least three years of relevant creative industry experience. Relevant experience includes any work that you have undertaken in the creative industries, such as a vocational internship or secondment with a corresponding creative industry company or organisation, and paraprofessional or professional engagement in a creative endeavour or event within your specified creative industry field.  Creative industries fields include:
  • Interactive and Digital Design
  • Music and Performing Arts
  • Film, Television and Radio
  • Writing and Publishing
  • Advertising and Marketing
  • Media and Communication
  • Visual Arts.

What information do I need to include with my application?

You must submit the following:

  •  certified academic transcript of all non-UWS studies
  •  curriculum vitae/resume, outlining all professional, semi-professional and paraprofessional work undertaken by you to the equivalent of three years of experience (maximum two pages)
  •  proof of change of name if your qualifications are in a name other than the name under which you are applying
  •  proof of english language proficiency if your studies were taken in a language other than English.

You should also submit some or all of the following as necessary:

  • evidence of your work in the form of a sample portfolio including: campaign material, posters of events naming the applicant, music composition, DVDs,proof of business registration from ASIC, programs of exhibitions, reviews, media coverage, photographs and footage
  • evidence of membership of professional association(s) such as National Association for Visual Arts (NAVA), Screen Australia, Media, Entertainment Arts Alliance (MEAA) and Australian Writers' Guild (AWG)
  • letters of reference, written by a recognised creative industry professional or an individual from a recognised professional creative industry organisation on company letterhead
  • professional statement of service, written on company letterhead, which states:
    • Your full name
    • Whether you were employed on a full-time or part-time basis
    • The hours you worked per week
    • Your position title
    • The period of employment in the position
    • Details of the duties of the position.

All documentation submitted with your application which has been copied from an original document must be correctly certified by following the certifying document guidelines. 


Are there any upfront fees that I need to pay?

The Associate Degree in Creative Industries is Commonwealth Government Supported, which means that the majority of your fees are paid by the Australian Government. You are required to pay the remainder, which is called your student contribution. As this is a Commonwealth Government Supported course, the student contribution is covered by the HECS-HELP scheme if you are eligible.

To be eligible for a Commonwealth Government Supported place you must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, a New Zealand citizen who will be resident in Australia for the duration of study, the holder of a Permanent Humanitarian visa or the holder of a permanent visa, who will be resident in Australia for the duration of study.

Note: New Zealand citizens and permanent residents must pay their student contribution in full up-front by the census date for each teaching period they are enrolled in, unless they hold a Permanent Humanitarian visa. Find out more about your student contribution and fees.

Classes commence Monday 25 June 2012.
